The first Digital Akron event held the last Thursday of June was a smashing success, I think.

Julie D’Aloiso gave a nice shout out about it on Twitter. She wrote:

“Digital Akron was fabulous last night! Great group of people! I am already looking forward to the next one.”

The only problem was people didn’t eat and drink enough. The food and beverages were sponsored by The SageRock System. They bought $125 worth of stuff and I’m pretty sure about $10 of it was actually consumed.

But there could be worse problems.

Digital Akron is held the last Thursday of every month. That means the July event will be held on July 28. They run from 4 PM to 5:30 PM.

These events are very casual and quite small. I don’t think we could do any more than 20 people. There were probably about 12 people in the room at the last event.

We pull out all the comfy chairs and couches and sit around in a circle eating and drinking and talking about the latest happenings in the Internet marketing world.

This month the topic will be “Facebook Ads Suck!”

At least that’s been my experience. I know that Julie has a different experience. And maybe you have your own experience about Facebook Ads.

Digital Akron events do not have some boring presenter standing in front of you telling you things you already know. These events are in the style of social media. Everyone has an opinion or at least has questions about these topics. The room of people become the presentation.

On top of that, the events are totally free. There is a maximum of 20 seats available. It’s on a first-come first-served basis.

And if that’s not good enough we have a sponsor for the event and they supply food and drinks.

Sponsor for the July event is SageRock Places - Websites with Benefits. It is a complete content management system run on the WordPress platform. This gives you the best content management system available with all of the latest and most useful plug-ins. But that’s not the real value of SageRock Places. The value comes in the fact that you are then led step-by-step and how to make your website successful for your business. Creating a website is just the beginning. SageRock Places shows you how to be successful with your website. There’s a free 30 day trial and then it is $19.95 a month. You can learn more here:

So if you would like to come to this event please register now. You can do that here:
http://www.eventbrite.com/event/1889821507

Pease only register if you are quite sure you can come. We want to make sure that there is room for the people that can make the event.

Hopefully I’ll see you on July 28 at 4 PM.

Oh! The event is held at the SageRock headquarters. That is located at 15 Broad Street Akron, Ohio.

Digital Akron Event - Now Free with Free Stuff

I’m excited to say that we are now going to run Digital Akron by sponsorship. So that means good things for you.

First: the event is now totally free. So you don’t have to pay anything to come.

Second: you also get free beer, wine, pop and snacks.

How can you beat that? Oh, I know! The content is awesome.

This month’s topic is: “Dealing With Google’s Panda Update.”

The Google Panda Update is plaguing businesses of all sizes.

At the end of February approximately 12% of all web sites in Google were negatively effected by, what is now being called, The Panda Update.

We have been actively working with companies that are dealing with this. We have seen massive traffic decreases in Web sites that have been effected.

We’ll talk about how to know if you are effected and then what to do to get your site back into the favors of Google.

This event is being held in Akron at SageRock Headquarters at 15 Broad St., Akron, Ohio.

It is this Thursday, June 30, 2011 from 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM (ET).

There is a maximum of 20 seats available.

So not only do you get free access to the event you also get free wine, beer, pop and snacks!

Digital Akron’s first event! Figuring Out Google’s Panda Update

This event is sponsored by The SageRock System.

So not only do you get free access to the event you also get free wine, beer, pop and snacks!

Dsc_5304 This is where the event will be held:
15 Broad St. Akron, Ohio

Everything takes longer than I envision. But I am proud to say that we have our first official event on the calendar!

On Thursday, June 30 from 4 PM to 5:30 PM Digital Akron will meet at the SageRock headquarters at: 15 Broad Street, Akron, Ohio.

We are going to be discussing Google’s Panda Update. This has proven to be a massive update by Google in an attempt to weed out poor quality websites.

This has effected approximately 12% of all websites. If your website has been affected by this you definitely want to come to this event. If you don’t know if your website has been affected by this you will also definitely want to come to this event. And even if you’re confident your website as gone through multiple versions of the Panda Update unscathed, you would likely do well to understand why sites have been impacted so that you can knowledgeably move forward in growing your traffic on Google.

We have been working with an increasing number of websites that are dealing with this issue. So we have first-hand knowledge that we can share with you. Additionally, the Internet community is sharing their findings concerning what works in getting a website back into Google after the Panda Update.

The Digital Akron events are set up as a roundtable. There will be a small presentation and then the majority of the event will be conversation. Instead of being presented with information that you may or may not find interesting, the session will be guided by your questions and experiences.

Also because the events are in a roundtable format, they will always be small in nature. No more than 20 people will be able to get into any one event.

This should be a particularly interesting topic that has a direct impact on any business that wants organic traffic from Google.

Digital Akron - What is it?

Actually, I’m not exactly sure.

I can tell you what I know so far. Digital Akron is an idea that came from a meeting between me, Sage Lewis and Kevin Lockett.

We wanted to do something to help bring the Online community of Akron together and then to share the knowledge of that group with anyone else who is interested in it.

Kevin had the idea of doing monthly meetings. But instead of having them be just traditional presentation-style meetings, they would be round-tables. The general idea is that there will be a topic with some questions and the group will interact to discuss how they would deal with that issue.

There should hopefully be people who have had experience with these issues and people that haven’t had experience with them.

The idea is that a group is much more knowledgeable than one person.

We haven’t come up with topics yet. But some off the top of my head might include:

  • How are you getting the most out of LinkedIn?
  • What are you doing to prove social media is effective for your company?
  • How are you using Google Analytics in unique and powerful ways?
  • What works for you the best to grow your business online?

There are endless topics.

We also thought that there shouldn’t be a monetary barrier for this. We will probably have a Paypal or Google Checkout (I’ve decided Paypal is going to offer the most flexibility here) button where you will donate to get you into the session. But the donation can be as little as $1. The donations will all be used for snacks and drinks at the session. If we get more money than we need for that session we’ll use it to make the sessions more valuable.

I’ve decided to use Eventbrite for this. They have a small fee. But it’s going to save me a ton of time to use.

The button to register will look something like this:

Register for Digital Akron - Dealing With Google's Panda Update in Akron, OH on Eventbrite

We’ll tell you how much money each session raised. If we start to get a collection of money we can discuss what the group would like to invest the money in to make the round-table sessions better.

So, that’s it in a nutshell.

We’ll tell you how much money each session raised. If we start to get a collection of money we can discuss what the group would like to invest the money in to make the round-table sessions better.

We will probably be doing these at my office at 15 Broad St. (Yup. That’s where we’re having ‘em.) It’s near Goodyear on the east side of Akron. That will just help keep costs down.
Digital Akron is meant to be a reflection of what is going on in the online world today. So, it’s going to be much less “top down” and more “ground up”. It will be as socially driven as we possibly can make it.
